Today is the Fall Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere; the day when the wheel of the year starts to turn toward the dark months. As the days grow shorter and nights grow longer, trees begin to lose their leaves and prepare to go dormant for the winter. Today is the perfect day to send trees some love and peace as they prepare for their winter sleep.
Mabon Ritual
You’ll need:
- Lavender (dried herb or oil)
- Chamomile (dried herb or oil)
- Rose petals (dried herb or oil)
- Water (if using dried herbs)
Don’t worry if you don’t have all of the herbs or oils listed. One, two or all three are perfectly fine.
If using dried herbs, use the 2:1 ratio for water to herbs. For example: 1 cup water to ½ cup herb. Bring the water to a boil and add the herb(s). Let simmer for 5 minutes, remove from heat and let cool. Strain the mixture into a glass or ceramic container.
Take the mixture outside and pour a bit of it at the base of as many trees as you’d like. If you’re using oils, use the oil to anoint the tree. As you’re doing this, think about what the trees have provided over the summer – shade, beautiful leaves, maybe flowers and/or fruit. Feel and give gratitude to each tree. If you’re so inclined, share your energy with the trees and give them a hug. The trees will feel your energy as they release and prepare for sleep. What a lovely way to say “goodnight”.
